The finale of Legally Blonde: The Search for Elle Woods premiered tonight on MTV, and - embarrassingly - it made me all warm & fuzzy inside after they announced the winner. The show has been a guilty pleasure the entire season - mainly because this was one of MTV’s better interpretations of what reality TV could be: optimistic, genuine, inspirational. And it made me want my name in bright lights, despite my lack of musical talent.
Overlooking the bickering and petty fights (which happen by default in any house full of girls), there weren’t any tasteless challenges or cheap baby mama drama. It was basically women from all over the US competing for the chance of a lifetime and actually working (a word not often used in reality TV) to make it happen. The girl who won - Bailey - is a mere 20 years old and spent her entire life in South Carolina. And now she’s the LEAD in a hit Broadway show.
DREAM.
I saw the musical last year with my cousin and was absolutely mesmerized throughout the entire show. The music, the choreography, the excitement - it was one of the most entertaining and elaborate productions I had ever seen. Broadway is at the top of my list of fave things to do in Manhattan, and I really don’t get to see enough of it.
If I could go back and do it all over again (am I allowed to say that at 24?), I think I’d actually learn to sing, dance and act. i had acting and dance training for a good portion of my childhood, but it clearly didn’t make a big enough impact to change my career goals. Also, people think cats are dying when I sing.
I don’t need my name in bright lights just yet, but it doesn’t hurt to stay focused.
All the world’s a stage anyway, right?
